Alicante Alicante is a very well-known city primarily because of the Alicante’s airport through which many of the visitors to the Costa Blanca arrive. Alicante is an elegant and vibrant city, with the stylish marina, with fashionable shops, with a lot of culture, and a wide sandy beach. The atmosphere is like in a busy village. The city has many green areas and places, famous promenades, and a beautiful marina port where you have a spectacular view of the Santa Barbara Castle. The city has really much to see and enjoy. There is something for everyone whether you want to relax, party the night away, go shopping or sightseeing. Most people arriving at the Alicante airport directly head out of Alicante. They all run directly to their holiday home or hotel; and rarely do they want to make a move to Alicante for sightseeing. It’s too bad because in Alicante are many attractions. And the town has some of the finest beaches, clear and safe with all facilities. Alicante’s long promenade, the “Explanada de Espana”, with its palm trees, dotted with cafes restaurants and craft stalls, are a great place for a walk, during the day and especially in the evening. From there it’s only a few minutes walk to the port with many restaurants offering drinks and all kind of fine Spanish dishes. From the harbor you can sail to Tabarca Island and the islands Majorca and Ibiza. La Rambla is the main road in the city. Here you will find many excellent shops and cafés. The city’s interesting buildings are the “Cathedral St Nicolas”, hidden in the back streets. Its narrow cobbled streets wind upward towards a quaint chapel built into the old town wall. There are many places where great nightlife can be found in Alicante. The old part of town, called “Barrio”, is where you will find the night action for those wishing to either party the night away or just to socialize and have a few drinks. Alicante City is full of all kinds of museums and art galleries. The world of archaeology and classical paintings is open for everybody. A walk up to Alicante’s castle “El Castillo de Santa Barbara” – or with a taxi – rewards the tourists with spectacular and breathtaking views over the city, the port and the surrounding area. On the top is also a museum and an exposition worth to visit. The castle is one of the largest medieval fortresses in Europe. From Alicante you have excellent bus and train connections: The Alicante city bus station covers most destinations, such as Murcia, Valencia, Almería, Madrid, Granada, Malaga, Barcelona, Sevilla, and Cordoba.
