Tourism on the Costa Blanca

In the year 2007 around 59 million tourists came to Spain. 5.5 million tourists visited the “Comunidad Valencia”. In an average each tourist spent 865 euros in total and 94 euros per day. In other words: Living on the Costa Blanca from October to Mai is wonderful for soul and mind; during the summer in most tourist resorts it’s a crazy and exciting life day and night.

But looking for a parking place on the beach resorts and in the main towns or villages near the sea is in many places a challenge. Driving around during the high season means to stay in endless traffic jams and that’s a waste of precious holiday time. During summer don’t even try to find access to the beach with your car, especially in the North of Costa Blanca! Park somewhere inland and walk 300-500 meters! If you want to put yourself in a really bad mood during the summer, then come with the car to Benidorm, Alicante, Altea, Moraira, Denia, Calpe, Torrevieja-town, etc!

Most towns are during the winter season very quiet. Benidorm, Torrevieja, and Elche are obviously lively all year long. Valencia and Alicante are all year round very busy cities. During summer the Costa Blanca host 3-5 times more people than regularly live there as residents. For example a little town with 15’000 residents can easily host 50-65’000 people during the months July and August! Visualize your holiday life!

Apart of beaches, tennis clubs, bowling clubs, golf clubs, social clubs, sailing clubs and sports clubs you have many possibilities for excursions, visiting for example the safari parks, water parks, museums, galleries, and the well know theme parks in the area of Benidorm, Alicante and Torrevieja.

The Costa Blanca region as well as many other regions in Spain has a rich and manifold history. On one side the various important civilizations including Romans, Arabs, Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthaginians and Moors occupied and lived in Spain. Each century with its civilization has formed its own identity on any region. From these époques results a varied cultural and religious influence.

Today with the exhaustive constructions in the last 20 years, we see exorbitant obstructions allover the beach areas – before a beautiful healthy natural environment for mind and soul. Fortunately in the South of Costa Blanca you can find plenty of space on the beach areas also during summer.

The Costa Blanca has still wonderful beaches. They are usually well cared for. During the summer months the beaches are normally cleaned daily. Many beaches have life-guards during the busy high season. But with the millions of tourist during the summer many beaches can get really overcrowded.

The increasing tourism provoked an enormous development the last 20 years and influenced thoroughly in the Spanish economy and natural environments. Towns and villages which formerly relied on agriculture and fishing or salt industry now rely predominantly on tourism and related businesses. This development with its corruptions, speculations and financial greediness has heavily damaged 2000 km coastlines in Spain. And with that they destroyed the nature, the sea nature, and also the world of animals.

Let’s be realistic: Tourism is all about business and only a tinny bit about Spanish culture and history. There are still innumerable wonderful places on the coasts areas, worth to live and to work there a healthy and peaceful life under 300-320 days sunshine and an agreeable climate. Making compromises and learning some Spanish should be self-evident.
