Costa Blanca The Costa Blanca is in the Province of Alicante, a part of the “Comunidad Valencia”. It consists of around 200 km of Mediterranean coastline. But its borders aren’t strictly defined. The main sector goes from Denia to Torrevieja. The extended Costa Blanca is understood from Cartagena to Gandia; but the area from San Pedro del Pinatar to Cartagena is part of the Comunidad of Murcia. This coastline from the Mar Menor down to Cartagena is known as the Costa Calida. Oliva and Gandia are part of the Costa del Azahar. On the Costa Blanca Spanish people speak “Valenciano” which is similar to “Catalán”; but they all speak “Castellano” (we would say: “Spanish”) as well. Costa Blanca North The Northern Costa Blanca coast starts with Denia and the Parc “Natural Montgo”. This area has majestic mountains in the background. The sandy beaches are excellent with plenty of space for everybody also in the summer. Denia has a marina port from which you can get a ferry across to Ibiza and Majorca. The coast areas direction south of Costa Blanca changes from being flat to rugged with coves and rocky beaches. Between here and Benidorm are a number of golf courses. Next to Denia comes Javea with its sandy beach. Inland we have the village Pereguer. The next beach resort is Moraira, a small town with a little sandy beach; which is part of town Teulada. Inland are the working towns of Teulada and Benissa. Benissa has a rocky beach area. From there we come to Calpe. Calpe has the famous rock called the “Penon de Ifach” which rises from the sea and looks like the Gibraltar’s rock. On each side is a fantastic wide sandy beach. Altea is only a few kilometers away from Calpe, a small town with a wonderful beach promenade up to Albir-Playa which is part of Alfas del Pi situated some kilometers inland. Then we come to the cosmopolitan Benidorm, one of the biggest tourist towns on the Costa Blanca. Benidorm with innumerable high rise skyscrapers is not for people wanting peace and tranquility during the summer. Its three beaches are excellent and the nightlife is amazing. 500.000 beds, innumerable cafes, restaurants and bars are ready for the masses. 3 km to the South is Villajoyosa located. If you go inland from here – or from Benidorm or Altea – you come to the small tourist village Guadalest, a wonderful gem! Costa Blanca South In the neighborhood of Alicante are El Campello and San Juan de Alicante situated, both with excellent long beaches. Alicante has a lot of culture and entertainment to offer. But most people arriving at the Alicante Airport (“El Altet”) go directly into the South or North of the Costa Blanca. From Santa Pola, seaside south of Alicante, we go down to Torrevieja with its many nice beaches. On the way are a number of beach resorts such as La Marina and Guardamar del Segura. The amount of buildings in this area is immense like everywhere on the Costa Blanca’s tourist resorts. Important Inland towns are Elche, famous for its Palm Trees Park, and Orihuela, Formentera, Ontinyent and Crevillent. There are a number of golf courses in this area. The main beaches of Cabo Roig are “Cala Caleta” and “Cala Capitan”, very popular, clean and well maintained. South of Torrevieja are many beach resorts: Cap Roig, Pilar de la Horadada, San Pedro del Pinatar, San Javier (with the Murcia-Airport), Los Narejos, Los Alcázares and finally La Manga. Now we are in the midst of the Mar Menor natural area. From there it’s a short trip to Cartagena. The Costa Calida starts with the Mar Menor. Murcia is not part of the “Comunidad Valencia” as well as Cartagena, and therefore “Castellano” speaking. The connections in the South will be improved: The future line of high speed from Madrid to the Region of Murcia will have railway station in Murcia and Cartagena. And the future international airport of Murcia will be located in Corvera, easily reachable also from the resorts in the South of the Costa Blanca (Torrevieja-region) and Cartagena. Have a question?
