Crevillent (Crevillente)

Crevillent is located between the Sierra de Crevillent and part of the El Hondo Reservoir. Crevillent is a typical Spanish busy industrial town where people live and work. The town is today the leading carpet manufacturer in Spain. The area is favorable for its special local climate and weather.

The town is not a holiday resort in the usual sense of the word. Nevertheless it has become a popular tourist destination with many narrow streets which are really worth to explore. There are many older style buildings giving testimony to the various historic cultures. The old centre is picturesque with many flat roofed Moorish houses. The principal church of Nuestra Senora de Belen is impressing.

The Laguna del Hondo is an important ecological area. It is home to various migratory birds that use it as a stopping place on their way to Africa.

The Sierra de Crevillent mountain range also plays host to the San Cayetano with extensive pine forests which provide a natural habitat for many different species of fauna.
