Denia Denia is a fascinating old town, a working town as well as a tourist town in the northern part of the Costa Blanca coastline. Many parts are rather industrialized. The Mount Montgo offers varied walking routes. The old 16th century castle on the hill right in the middle of the town gives spectacular views. A visit to the castle is a must. In the Castle is an Archaeological Museum. The Mount Montgo Natural Park contains a huge variety of flora and fauna with over 600 plant species. Denia has a large fishing fleet. Every day is a fish market held. The town is large and the old part transmits a real Spanish feeling. The streets in the main centre are lined with trees giving shadow and always crowded. Cafés and restaurants invite to take a seat, and many shops to enter. The surrounding streets are full of small shops with everything one could wish. A tourist train runs from the tourist information office to the castle. It’s worth to visit the Iglesia de la Asuncion with its magnificent dome. Follow the signs for the castle one will find the way up to the top. The overlooks to the Denia Bay is amazing. Denia and its area are all year round quite lively with a great variety of amenities and facilities. The port is large and cosmopolitan with daily cruise to Mallorca and Ibiza. Denia’s facilities are exquisite: a modern hospital and two golf courses in La Sella and Oliva Nova. The 20 km of magnificent clean and fine sandy beaches are a great place for windsurfing. The northern area is called “Les Marines” and the Sothern area “Les Rotes” with exciting coves of transparent waters. It’s worth to explore the coastline containing many beaches and rocky coves. Some of the beaches are: Les Deveses, Les Bovetes, Punta Raset, La Marineta Cassiana, Les Marines, Els Molins and El Trampoli. The conditions are ideal for water sports. This coast has become a popular area for a wide range of water based activities. There are daily Ferry services to Mallorca and Ibiza. There are also full and half day short cruise possibilities along the coast to visit other resorts such as Javea, Calpe and Altea. The train station is located in the town centre. It’s convenient for little trips to Altea, Benidorm, and El Campello. From there you reach easily Alicante, but it’s not a fast way of going to Alicante city. If you are Valencia-oriented you will need to take a bus to Gandia and catch the train there for Valencia.
