Guardamar del Segura

Guardamar del Segura stands at the mouth of the river Segura between Santa Pola and Torrevieja. It’s a busy town and a popular holiday resort. Guardamar has beautiful parks and also numerous fine restaurants. Places of interest in the area are the Parque Reina Sofia, La Gola, where the river leads to the sea. Also worth a visit is the Casa Cultura which houses many historical artefacts from Guardamar’s past.

“La Pinada” covers an area of 840 hectares, now declared an area of natural interest. There is a wide variety of flora and fauna. Pine trees of various species, palm trees, eucalyptus trees, and some creeping species of plants help to avoid the erosion of the beautiful beaches.

Guardamar del Segura is very attractive with its fabulous white sandy beaches, such as Los Viveros, Playa Centro, El Monacayo and the naturist beach Los Tusales. The 12 km fine sandy beaches of Guardamar and La Pineda are so wide that one could feel being in a nearly empty desert even during the high summer season.  The pine trees and various other species produce an unforgettable aroma sensation.

The Parc natural de Laguna de la Mata and de Torrevieja, both with a salt lake, is a popular area for horse riding, cycling and walking. Many also choose to bathe in the salt water hoping for healing effects.
