Holiday Advice Personal Safety There are thieves everywhere in the world; also in Spain and especially in the high season periods. The strong presence of police has drastically reduced the crime rate in Spain over the past years. But crime is inevitable due to the obvious wealth of most tourist resorts, particularly from immigrants in the form of pickpockets and handbag snatchers. To help prevent crime we recommend the following: Do not carry more cash on you than you need for some days. Use ATM machines. Do not leave valuables unattended wherever you are (also in your hotel room). Avoid walking alone in dark places and alleys or beaches at night. Be aware of pickpockets at markets, tourist attractions, crowded places and supermarket car parks. Dial 112 if in need of help or to report any suspicious occurrence.
Should you be the victim of a crime you must report it to your local police station. They will complete a “denuncia” form in order for you to make a claim against your insurance. Going to Spain by car The most important advice: better you arrive 2-5 hours later than never! You and especially your kids need a break every 1.5-2 hours! Don’t argue with your partner about whatever during the trip! If you have a disagreement with your partner, sort it out before you leave! Hungry and thirsty kids easily become nervous and annoying. Better to take a laxative the day before than to be annoyed during your travel! Respect the speed limits! Millions of cars are on the highways during summer! Eat and drink regularly while having a break; but never too much! Don’t leave valuables in the car while going to the restaurant (or toilet)! Be sure that everything is up to standards with your car before leaving! Thousands die in car accidents during their holiday trip. They all thought that such a dramatic and definitive end would never happen to them!
For couples Most couples have their most critical arguments, quarrels and fights during holidays. Sort out pending tensions before you leave and make peace with your partner the day before leaving! During your holidays give much more signs of love to your partner than you usually would in daily life! Varied Advice and Tips before travelling to Spain You need a travel insurance! Check your insurance! Always take with you the most important telephone numbers for all cases! Prepare yourself: read about the place you are going to (surf the Internet)! Study some relevant maps about your journey and the place you are visiting! Getting drunk everyday has nothing to do with holidays, but a lot to do with a drunken person! The sun in Spain is wonderful, but there are some risks you should consider! Drink a lot of water every day: water for the body and beer or wine for enjoyment!
Learn to celebrate your holidays, every day and every hour! Before coming on holiday to Spain, you might want to ask a question or two in our Spain Forums for Holidays in Spain.
