San Pedro del Pinatar

San Pedro del Pinatar is facing the Mar Menor and with that one of the main tourist resorts on the Murcia coast. The Airport San Javier is around 7 km away and therefore an interesting destination for people from the North. Mainly here the Costa Calida begins. San Pedro del Pinatar occupies a small peninsula with 14 km of coastline between the two seas.

The main attractions are the beach and shore. Along the promenade are the extensive beaches from the Mar Menor.  Here you will find an active tourist center with all kinds of holiday facilities, such as hotels, bars, restaurants and shops. Beach activities are sailing, scuba diving or windsurfing.

To mention are the Salinas de San Pedro del Pinatar, an area where varied species of migratory birds come to nest. Flamingos and other migratory bird flocks nest here every year.
Flamingos are the kings of the area, because of their spectacular nature. Flamingo flocks arrive to the Nature Reserve at the end of the summer to hibernate in the place. There are two bird watching areas from which you can observe many species of birds.

San Pedro del Pinatar Saltworks Nature Reserve is a unique Mediterranean coastal spot. The existence of salt works in this Nature Reserve is very old. Fourteen Century documents mention these salt works already.
