Santa Pola Santa Pola is today a busy small town only 8 km south of Alicante airport. The resort is a great location for holidays. The golden sandy beaches of 15 km are clean, safe and large. The main beaches are Levante, Lisa, Gran Playa, and Tamarit – ideal for families. To mention are also the “Calas de Santiago Bernabeu”, “el Varadero”, “Las Calas del Cap”, “el Bancal de la Arena” and “las Calas de Santa Pola del Este”. The water is crystal clear and protected from the winds coming from the south. There is a watchtower and a castle fortress. The plain Renaissance style military fortress with two bastions and two big fortified towers at the corners houses the Chapel of our Lady of Loreto. Today the castle centre plays host to varied cultural and festive programs. There is also a Museum of Sea and Salt, and a port. Another popular attraction is the aquarium with a surface of over 700 meters square. During the summer many people are lazing along the beaches up to Gran Alacant and Los Arenales. It’s a great place for water and wind sport, as well as for living all year round there. The promenade is nice and crowded in the summer evenings. Tabarca is a Spanish islet located in the Mediterranean Sea, 3 km close to the town of Santa Pola. Around 100 inhabitants live there permanently. The tiny island Tabarca has become a popular day trip destination. The daily ferries across to his Island operate from the port hourly during the summer months. There are also several boats connecting Tabarca with Alicante and Torrevieja. This little fishing village with an old fort has several fresh seafood restaurants, a rocky beach with clear turquoise water and several coves ideal for bathing. Another attraction is the Safari park, located off the Santa Pola motorway near Elche. It has many different species of animals such as hippopotami, elephants, giraffes, tigers, lions, primates, a caiman farm, an aquarium, the reptile house, and an impressing animal show.
