Torrevieja Torrevieja, once a small town and today a cosmopolitan city, is located on the sea side, about 50 kilometers south of Alicante airport. A huge numbers of people from northern Europe live in Torrevieja and surrounding. Today the facilities are very good with three excellent hospitals. There are also private and national health clinics with many doctors and dentists of all nationalities, and international schools. There are museums, churches and parks worth to visit. The resort is fascinating and enjoyable. The majority of the new residents are expats; primarily from the UK, from Ireland, Scandinavia, and Germany. There are currently over 160 different nationalities registered on the local census. Torrevieja is surrounded by salt lakes and as a result the climate is very healthy. These two large salt lakes are the characteristic trait of this tourist area. The salt lakes are protected and form the habitat for a huge variety of bird species. The salt is also commercially extracted providing one of the Torrevieja’s main industries. A visit of “The Salinas” is indispensable. Everybody enjoys the center of this modern tourist town, the harbor, the fish market, the museum of sea and salt, the Church of La Inmaculata Conception, or taking a submarine tour. Torrevieja has several attractive parks, gardens and squares. There are also two water parks and a large indoor sports centre with a huge swimming pool. The fine sandy beaches are clean, wonderful, and equipped with all kind of facilities. The water is crystal clear. To mention are the beaches: Las playas de La Mata, La Zenia, Playa Flamenca, Los Locos, El Cura, and Lo Ferris. There are parking places, bus stations, promenades, and places for water sport. There are much more beaches such as “La playa de los Náufragos” with urbanisations nearby. The “playa de Torrelamata” is a place for nautical sport. From the North to the South, the coastline begins with the popular Mata beach with its fine sand. Cervera cape is linked to Salaret point by a series of small and rocky coves.
